Lessons from our cricket team

Our clowns could learn a thing or two from our cricketers when it comes to working as a team. We will be playing in the Twenty20 Cricket World Cup next year in Bangladesh. Who would have thought that one day Nepal would be playing in a World Cup event? We are all proud of our lads and hope they will do well in the T20 World Cup. Our cricketers should give motivational speeches to our clowns and inspire them to work together to write the constitution on time. I think our political parties should host their own T20 cricket matches and settle their differences over a game of cricket instead of using their cadres to bash each other up and making our lives miserable by shutting down schools, businesses and highways. We hear media reports about how our government wallahs have promised our lads Rs 1 million each. That’s great news but let’s hope it won’t turn out to be another publicity natak and they will really receive the dough instead of bad cheques. Yes, the Sports Ministry will for

Bear Crashes Toddler's Birthday Party

Happy Bear-thday! A Florida toddler's birthday became 800 times more paw-some Saturday when a black bear crashed the party. The Orlando party was going for about 30 minutes before the bear burst in through a fence. The adults in attendance say they made sure the kids didn't get near the animal "because they don't' know about the dangers with the bears," Yvette Picasso told WKMG 6. Florida Fish and Wildlife officers shot the 200-pound bear with a tranquilizer and took it away in a pickup truck for relocation, according to WCSC. Bears just want to have fun. Last month, a bear broke into a Russian home and ate some borscht before scampering off into the woods. And last year, a beer-craving bear family of four ripped off the wall of a cabin in Norway, then chugged 100 cans of beer. source: huffingtonpost.com

New Study Indicates That Y Chromosome May Be Unnecessary For Reproduction

A new study has promising results for those battling male infertility. Researchers at the John A. Burns School of Medicine, University of Hawaii have shown that male mice with only two genes from the Y chromosome can successfully produce offspring. The same team previously demonstrated that only seven genes from the Y chromosome were necessary, which means that researchers are getting closer to breeding mice without any contribution from the Y -- or male -- chromosome at all. As the BBC reported it, "Scientists have practically obliterated the ultimate symbol of maleness in DNA, the Y chromosome, and believe they may be able to do away with it completely." The study started off by genetically engineering male mice to lack the Y chromosome, thus making them entirely infertile. Researchers then made the mice "male" again by adding back two genes (Sry and Eif2s3y) for sperm production: one that would make them grow testes and one that would cause the testes to

Watching Others Exercise Can Make You Fitter, Study Shows

Watching sport can make you fitter, according to research Sunday that said viewing other people exercise increases heart rate and other physiological measures as if you were working out yourself. The study, published in the international journal Frontiers in Autonomic Neuroscience, showed that when watching a first person video of someone else running, heart rate, respiration, skin blood flow and sweat release all increased. They returned to normal at the conclusion of the "jog". Researchers said that importantly, for the first time, it was shown that muscle sympathetic nerve activity increased when people watched physical activity. "Recording this nerve activity provides a very sensitive measure of the body's physiological responses to physical or mental stress," said one of the lead researchers Vaughan Macefield, from the School of Medicine at the University of Western Sydney. "We know that the sympathetic nervous system -- which supplies the

The company has so far donated more than $2.5 million in cash and in-kind contributions. “We wish to express our heartfelt solidarity to all Filipinos in these difficult times,”Carlos Salazar Lomelín, Chief Executive Officer of Coca-Cola FEMSA, the bottling company of the Philippines, said in a press release. “It is in times like these when the Philippines sets an example of resilience and good spirit, and where our values of supporting ourselves as a team come at its best.” The death count for Typhoon Haiyan, one of the strongest storms on record, has surpassed 5,000. You Won't Believe The Weird Sea Creature Mark Quartiano Caught Off Miami Beach

Imagine going fishing off the coast of Miami -- and instead catching a rare and massive beast that appears straight from the Mesozoic era (or all of our nightmares). The well-known shark fisherman who snared the 800-pound sea creature below told ABC News it was like "a dinosaur." “It was very old. It had barnacles all over it,” said Captain Mark Quartiano, a controversial charter boat operator known as "Mark the Shark." The creature was a whopping 14 feet from head to tail. Quartiano identified the monster as the rarely seen dactylobatus clarkii, or hookskate, according to Local10. The hookskate is a species about which very little is known thanks to its penchant for living on muddy sea bottoms up to 1,000 feet deep. But it might be something else entirely: GrindTV spoke with George H. Burgess of the Florida Museum of Natural History, who identified the beast as dasyatis centroura, a roughtailed stingray that normally grows only to 660 pounds but packs a

Jomsom plane crash

The commission formed to investigate the causes of the accident of Nepal Airlines Corporation’s (NAC) Twin Otter aircraft 9N-ABO in Jomsom blamed “human error” for the crash. The plane had skidded off the runway and plunged 25 meters down the Kali Gandaki River while landing at Jomsom airport on May 16. There were 21 people, including three crew members, on board, but no human casualties were reported. Unveiling the report on Tuesday, the commission’s member-secretary Buddhi Sagar Lamichhane said the pilot, Deependra Pradhan, did not follow the instructions of the control tower. “There was no technical problem in the airplane,” he said. According to the commission, the pilot attempted to land the plane on Runway-06 despite the control room warned of high air wave speed. “The plane was suggested to land on Runway- 24 instead of Runway-06,” it said. The report said the plane went out of control due to high-speed landing on the short runway. The crew members did not follow the s

Has the self-driving car at last arrived?

Has the self-driving car at last arrived? The Google car knows every turn. It never gets drowsy or distracted, or wonders who has the right-of-way. Illustration by Harry Campbell. Human beings make terrible drivers. They talk on the phone and run red lights, signal to the left and turn to the right. They drink too much beer and plow into trees or veer into traffic as they swat at their kids. They have blind spots, leg cramps, seizures, and heart attacks. They rubberneck, hotdog, and take pity on turtles, cause fender benders, pileups, and head-on collisions. They nod off at the wheel, wrestle with maps, fiddle with knobs, have marital spats, take the curve too late, take the curve too hard, spill coffee in their laps, and flip over their cars. Of the ten million accidents that Americans are in every year, nine and a half million are their own damn fault. A case in point: The driver in the lane to my right. He’s twisted halfway around in his seat, taking a picture of the Lexus that I’m
