KATHMANDU, FEB 16 - A Jumla-bound twin otter belonging to
Nepal Airlines has gone out of contact since Sunday afternoon. The aircraft
that took off from Pokhara airport at 12:43 am lost contact with air traffic
control tower since 1:13 pm.
There were
18 passengers including three crew members, one child and a foreigner on board
the plane that was scheduled to land at 1:45 pm.
The crew
members include Captain Shankar Shrestha, co-pilot Rabinda Banjara and Air
hostess Muna Maharjan. The aircraft had last made contact with Bhairahawa air
traffic controller, asking permission for diverting the plane. But the plane
has not been able to establish contact since then, according to Pratap Babu
Tiwari, Chief of Pokhara Airport.
Though the
visibility of the Pokhara airport and the plane's destination airport was said
to be fair (7 km), the officials suspect the weather might have deteriorated in
the mid-way as the plane left.
The plane
has been seen burning in Fidim forest the border between Palpa , Arghakanchhi and
Gulmi .
