New
Jersey couple found dead in car were all smiles night of disappearance: Witness
Melissa
Pereira, 25, and Jorge Rodriguez, 24, planned to spend New Year’s Eve at a
bed-and-breakfast in Pennsylvania together.
Mystery
still surrounds the case of the young New Jersey couple who were found dead in
a garage Sunday, but new details are emerging.
Melissa
Pereira, 25, and Jorge Rodriguez, 24, parked in the garage at the Wayne Village
apartment complex and closed the door, perhaps for a little privacy, about 11
p.m. on Dec. 27, witness Nicole Trifari said.
Police
knew to look in the garage after a wireless phone company figured out the
location of Pereira's cell.
Melissa
Pereira, 25, tweets about her planned vacation with Jorge Rodriguez, 24,
shortly before their disappearance.
The
couple exhibited no signs of physical trauma that would indicate they were
murdered, according to Michael DeMarco, a chief assistant at the Passaic County
Prosecutor's Office.
"Detectives
could not estimate how long the bodies have been inside of the garage,"
DeMarco said in a release.
Family members say the young couple had a reservation at the
Cherry Valley Manor, a bed-and-breakfast in Stroudsburg, Pa., for New Year's
Eve. Pereira's family owns the garage and rents it out for storage, her uncle
said.
The
medical examiner in Newark conducted an autopsy on Monday but is still awaiting
the results of a toxicology test.
