UCPN (M) candidate in Taplejung seriously injured in CPN-M attack, 15 more wounded


Sancha Pal Maden, the UCPN (Maoist) candidate in Taplejung-1 has been fatally attacked and injured by the cadres of poll-boycotting CPN-Maoist Friday. Fifteen more have been injured, while three including Maden are in serious condition.
According to news reports, the incident took place in Mehle VDC Friday morning when Maden was in deep sleep. He was in the village for the election campaign.
In a statement released by the party’s central committee, its spokesperson Agni Sapkota confirmed the attack stating that the injured were brought from the village to district headquarters for treatment.
Sapkota has further called upon his party’s cadres and candidates to retaliate such attacks. “We condemn the attacks and wish for quick recovery of the injured,” said Sapkota.
He further lamented the government for failing to provide security to candidates. “We demand strong action against the culprits,” he said.
Meanwhile, the attackers have been identified as an armed group of CPN-M that included Santosh Palungwa, Parsuram Poudel and Tara Thapa.

NFL player Darren Sharper

An arrest warrant has been issued for former NFL player Darren Sharper and his acquaintance, according to the New Orleans Police Department. The 38-year-old is accused of raping two women in New Orleans last September.  Both Sharper and his acquaintance, Erik Nunez, 26, each face two counts of aggravated rape. Last week, investigators learned that not one, but two women were allegedly sexually assaulted by Sharper in the same apartment the night of September 23rd.  New information uncovered also indicates that Nunez also allegedly raped both women that night at the same location. Louisiana law states that a person convicted of committing aggravated rape shall be punished by life imprisonment at hard labor without benefit of parole, probation or suspension of sentence. The investigation continues and additional arrests are possible. In all, Sharper is now being investigated in eight cases in five states on accusations of sexual crimes.
