Nepali team are expected to put on better batting display in the World Twenty20 Qualifiers in the Dubai in November following training sessions with Australian batting coach Chris Harris.
Harris, who has performed similar camps in many ACC associate countries, has been providing batting tips to the national team for a week now. “We focused on the pull shot as the way the boys were playing it would more likely to cost them wicket,” Harris, a CricketAustralia level III coach, told reporters on Wednesday.
He concentrated more on playing pace bowling which has been a major concern for Nepal. “The boys are quick learner and I am impressed with the way they have picked up my instructions. But we’ve got to see how they implement it in a match,” said Harris, who was an assistant coach of the Melbourne Stars and Melbourne Renegades in the KFC Twenty20 Big Bash for the last two seasons.
“I focused on playing safe ground shots, especially on bouncy pitches in New Zealand,” said Harris, who has been hired under the High Performance Programme for the national team’s preparations for the 20 overs as well as the 50 overs World Cup Qualifiers, taking place in Dubai next month and New Zealand in January 2014 respectively.
He also shed light on the mental aspect of batting. “Batting is a mind game and I held a few sessions on playing it with the mind as well,” explained the Australian. He also discussed techniques on playing spin.
