At least seventeen people were injured as cadres and supporters of Terai Madhesh Loktantric Party (TMLP) and Madhesi Janadhikar Forum-Democratic (MJF-D) clashed at Godita of Sarlahi district on Thursday.
Five TMLP and MJF-D cadres were seriously injured in the clash that ensued after supporters of the two rival sides argued over damaged election campaign pamphlets.
Those who were seriously hurt in the incident have been taken to Birgunj for treatment, reports said.
Eyewitnesses said the cadres of both the parties had used knives, khukuris, swords and sticks while attacking eachother during the clash.
District Police Office Sarlahi said that the two rival sides started fighting each other after the supporters of MJF-D candidate for Sarlahi constituency no 5 Rameshwor Raya tore down the pamphlets of TMLP candidate for the constituency Jangilal Raya.
Election-related violence has grown in Terai districts of the country in the run up to the November 19 polls. Clashes between rival party supporters and cadres in Sarlahi and Siraha districts during election campaigning alone has left more than 30 people injured, according to various reports.
On Wednesday night, MJF-D candidate for Siraha constituency no. 4 and former state minister Satrughan Prasad Singh including Chandra Dev Yadav were attacked when they reached Javed Khan’s house at Balkawa to exchange festive greeting on the occasion of the Bakra Eid festival. However, both managed to survive the attack without any kind of injuries.
