KATHMANDU: Technology has made it easier for the people to exchange greetings during the festive seasons through mobile phones lately.
Nepali costumers of Nepal Telecom (NT) sent/received a total of 8.4 million Short Message Service (SMS) — in four days of Dashain festival — that is an increment by three fold compared to normal flow of SMS, according to the telecom service provider.
A total of 3.2 million SMS were circulated on the day of Fulpati — the seventh day of Dashain — alone,” NT spokesperson Surendra Prasad Thike said, adding that Astami — the eighth day — and Nawami — the ninth day of the festival — witnessed the flow of 2.4 million SMS through its GSM network. “The flow of SMS on the day of Bijaya Dashami was around 2.8 million making it to a total of 8.4 million SMS passing through its network in the four days of the festival that is celebrated across the country since time immemorable.
“The overall transaction of SMS on Fulpati, Astami and Nawami, and Bijaya Dashami recorded Rs 1.6 million, Rs 1.2 million and Rs 1.4 million, excluding tax, respectively, according to Nepal Telecom. The normal flow of SMS through Nepal Telecom’s GSM service is around 1.1 million to 1.2 million every day, Thike said.
